Rice Can Heal Your Muscles!

Imagine you are a blood cell, riding through the dark tunnels of the arteries. You start traveling along the endless subway, providing nutrients to the muscles surrounding you. Suddenly you hear an alert coming from the ankle, like a siren. “WEE-OO, WEE-OO, WEE-OO!” Suddenly, the direction of your cruise changes and you are bumping super fast along a red rapid that is headed towards the ankle. When you reach your destination, you see huge amounts of lactic acid sneering and punching at the poor ankle muscle. When it looks over, it stops laughing and runs for its life while you and your cell buddies fill in and start to relax and ease the poor ankle muscle. Now imagine you were that human, having so much aching and pain in your ankle and then it suddenly going away. What is that sorcery? It is none other than heat!

Heat is used to widen blood vessels, which brings more blood to the area applied and is used to help restore new blood to injured tissue. It is commonly used when you have joint stiffness, muscle spasms, and sore muscles. Also, since heat brings fresh blood to the area applied, it flushes out all of the bad blood and lactic acid that builds up after you exercise. Likewise, before you run or play sports, heat will help more blood to flow and is kind of like a warmup (to prepare your muscles) so you might use it before a race. Warmth works best on bigger muscles such as the neck or back, but you could also use it for your ankle! Plus, a nice warm jacuzzi on your foot will always feel good and make you go, “ahhhhhh, that’s nice” and especially after a long run.
