Wearable Zepp Soccer Review #2 – Kicks and Acceleration

Hello and welcome to the next post of the electronic sock series! Today we will be continuing with a review of the Zepp PLAY SOCCER which is a small, strawberry-sized device that measures your soccer game play statistics. In this post, we will be using the Zepp to measure acceleration while comparing it with our own measurements. We will also be seeing whether the speed of a kick and the distance the ball goes is proportional (this tells us that there is a measurement and algorithm which makes it somewhat accurate). To do this, we will do a series of kicks that progressively get farther. Then we will look at the speed of the kick and see if it also gets harder. To measure acceleration, the algorithm is change in velocity over change in time. We will be seeing if the velocity that the zepp measures is similar to the acceleration we measure.

It looks like the kick speed and distance were not proportional and jumped around a little. This could mean that the leg swing wasn’t strong but it appears that the speed is not totally accurate. When we look at the acceleration, the zepp also did not have accurate results and was almost two times slower than what we measured. In conclusion, the zepp isn’t the most exact when measuring kicks and acceleration but it is a quick way to get an idea of your statistics!
