Sock Farting Continues…Hemp, Silver Ion and Jute Sock Odor Experiments

Why did the bacteria cross the microscope?
To get to the other slide!

Welcome to the next post of the Zen Healing Sock Series! We will be testing three types of socks to see how well hemp, silver ion, and jute socks defend against odor-creating bacteria:

So what causes smell? Bacteria will eat and feed their cell causing it to grow and give off smell. However, some sock companies are using silver Ion technology. Having this in a sock will send tiny silver ions into the different types of bacteria and will trap them, so they die. These main bacteria are Staph A, E. Coli, and Candida Albicans.

(Note: Hemp is left, silver ion is top right, and jute is bottom left)

After running around in the socks to get them sweaty and swabbing them, we waited five days for the bacteria to grow. The hemp sock had the least Candida Albicans colonies. However, it did create black mold! The Silver Ion sock produced the least Staph A colonies but the most Candida Albicans colonies. The jute cell turned out to prevent the E coli the best but was the worst with protecting against Staph A. It seems that all of the socks are not antibacterial at all!

In conclusion, none of these socks seem to be defending against the bacteria all that well… adidas Running, NikeRunningBiking,
